The Mystique of Downtown Culture
RADIO SERIES
A Clocktower Radio mini-series and podcast spotlighting the voices of artists, entrepreneurs, cultural activists, observers, aficionados, and documentarians who have influenced, experienced, tracked, preserved, or embraced the unique American cultural perspective (often called a mindset) known as “downtown”--a countercultural nexus and movement recognized globally for its creative and often subversive contribution-- as manifest in art, lifestyle, politics,
The programs track the evolution of everything from architecture and music to sex and graphics through recorded testimony culled from rare and many unheard recordings from long gone countercultural heroes like Marcel Duchamp, John Cage, Marianne Moore, Alan Kaprow, and Allen Ginsberg plus new interviews with their colleagues, disciples, and fans from Anne Waldman and John Giorno to Joan Jonas and Meredith Monk.
This series is made possible, in part, with support from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, the New York State Council on the Arts, and individual donors.
