People Get Ready

Brooklyn-based People Get Ready are known for creating unique performance experiences or multi-sensory mixtapes that are a “melding of independent music and contemporary dance” (New York Times). They have a distinct ability to re-define what a band is, to blur boundaries, and to forge continuing creative bonds with the formidable list of artists whose paths they've crossed. Their music and performance pieces have been presented in places like The Kitchen, Death By Audio, New York Live Arts, Glasslands, Baryshnikov Arts Center, BAM, Watermill Center and many other art houses in and outside of New York.

People Get Ready

Brooklyn four-piece People Get Ready return to perform new material developed over the course of their summer 2013 residency at the Clocktower Gallery, songs from their forthcoming album produced by Deerhoof's Greg Saunier. People Get Ready was formed in 2009 by dancer and composer Steven Reker, Luke Fasano, James Rickman, and Jen Goma, each having previously had a separate musical career. While Reker worked as a dancer and guitarist on David Byrne's 2008-2009 tour, Fasano had been a member of the band Yeasayer, Rickman had played in the bands Lizzie Trulie and Slow Gherkin, and Goma, a member of the band A Sunny Day in Glasgow. The group’s music is characterized by soaring harmonies, high-energy rhythms, and vocals led by Reker but harmonized and intensified by the others. Here is a teaser for People Get Ready's second LP.
