Borden Capalino, Ballyjamesduff

Borden Capalino is a visual artist living and working in Brooklyn, NY. His work has been described as akin to forensic surrealism. It deals with materiality, repurposing, retrofitting, and ultimately the life of objects. His 2013 exhibition activities include appearances at at Frieze NY, Derek Eller Gallery, and Eli Ping Gallery. Capalino is represented by Ramiken Crucible.

The residency project consists of three tracts of production:

1) Knock-offs of the iconic Alexander McQueen Armadillo shoe.
2) WW2 style foxhole radios.
3) Ceramic portraits commission via the Casual Encounters section of Craigslist.

The series of objects will come together in the form of a catalog printed on reassembled shredded paper, found in the Clocktower Building's 108 Leonard St. trash room. His studio and project artifacts will go on view mid-July.

Streamcast, Concert & Open Studios: Weekend

Tuesday, July 23 at The Clocktower Gallery (or via live streacast) hear San Francisco lo-fi trio Weekend perform live while we simultaneously celebrate the release of Jinx, their second album out July 23, 2013. The same night visitors will have the opportunity to explore the full extent of the project rooms of the gallery, showcasing works from artists MV Carbon and Borden Capalino alongside our current exhibition Jene Highstein: Early Works in the main and upper galleries. Formed in San Franscico in 2009, immersive post-punk band Weekend consists of Kevin Johnson, Abe Pedroza, and Shaun Durkan, former middle-school bandmates and roommates currently dedicated to balancing the aggression of punk with a more textural, cerebral experience. Their new album Jinx follows the success of their haunting 2010 debut album Sports and similarly celebrated follow up EP Red in 2011.
