RAFT as the Stranger

Play the full streamcast of this performance HERE.

RAFT takes form of the Stranger character from the Canyon Candy film, and performs a piece of music that is both haunting and beautiful, a meditative sound sculpture that echos the transformative power of the Canyon. The Stranger utilizes the entire exhibition for the performance as he discovers a very strange instrument in the barren desert and begins to explore the instrument's voice. The resulting music, written specifically for this show, takes the audience on a journey inside and beyond the walls of the Canyon Candy exhibition.

Pat Noecker, formerly of the bands Liars, These are Powers, and n0 things, has explored his solo project persona RAFT since 2002. More information for the artist can be found here.

RAFT: The Stranger

On April 3, 2012 Pat Noecker took form as The Stranger--a character he plays in Mike Anderson and Javelin's music video Canyon Candy--and merged it with his solo persona RAFT. Thus embodied and equipped he performs here a piece of music that is both haunting and beautiful, a meditative sound sculpture that echoed the transformative power of the Canyon (an immersive installation on view in the Clocktower). The Stranger utilized the entire exhibition for the performance as he appeared to discover a very strange instrument in the barren desert and began to explore the instrument's voice. The resulting music, written specifically for this show, took the audience on a journey inside and beyond the walls of the Canyon Candy exhibition. Pat Noecker, formerly of the bands Liars, These are Powers and n0 things, has explored his solo project persona RAFT since 2002. More information for the artist can be found here.

RAFT: Transmissions

The live performance recording of Transmissions, Long Tones in A and E by artist Pat Noecker aka RAFT performed by the composer and 10 musicians installed throughout the Pioneer Works' building, during the May 2015 Second Sundays open house, in conjunction with a specially designed app that involved audience participation on their mobile devices. The Transmissions app was designed by Noecker and developed by Johann Diedrick. Raft, the world’s first cellphonist, believes that APPS and smart phones do not have to isolate us and that they can facilitate unified and collaborative creative events. Transmissions utilizes the cavernous Pioneer Works space as a resonant casing, the audience members with the app as the tweeters, and the ensemble as the woofer. With performers Pat Spadine, Michael Durek, Tracy Brooks, Victoria Keddie, Dana Schecter, Laura Ortman, Ted McGrath, Aaron Moore, and Michael Garofalo.
