Living Live: The Art of the Soundtrack

Devon E Levins of Morricone Youth (East Village Radio) and Fabio Roberti, host of Strength Through Failure (WFMU) are film score experts and radio veterans with encyclopedic knowledge and terrific collections. They discuss historic trends in the field, handpick winners and losers and assess the current scene.

The conversation is followed by an eclectic music selection tilting toward the more obscure work and including the greats: Morricone, John Barry, Mancini, Nino Rota, Bernard Herrmann and much more.

Living Live: The Free Music Archive & WFMU

Clocktower Radio interviews the creators of the Free Music Archive to discuss law, innovation, open-source activism, networking, music, and communications. With Ken Freedman - WFMU Station Manager and self-described DJ, Red Sea Pedestrian, Self-Hating Atheist, Skier, Proud New Jerseyan and bubbling cauldron of rage and Jason Sigal - founding director of the Free Music Archive, an expert in alternative copyrights and digital distribution, a WFMU DJ and a member of the band Lame Drivers. Freedman pioneered the use of direct licensing for broadcasters, obtaining alternative copyrights and waivers to address restrictions placed on broadcasters by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. In 2007, Freedman and Sigal built on these direct licensing activities and founded WFMU's Free Music Archive, an open source library of copyright-cleared music and audio which launched in April 2009. The interview will be followed by a playlist assembled from the FMA comprised largely of indie bands and experimental music.

Living Live: I Love Vinyl: Interview & DJ Session

Clocktower Radio's Jeannie Hopper hosts the I Love Vinyl crew at Red Bull Studios New York as part of our summer long 2014 Living Live streamcast and viewing party produced in partnership with artist Peter Coffin. The group shares from their vast musical collection and discusses new media radio innovation. Listener's Note: This program is posted in three parts: the interview, and then two extended DJ sets. You can use the media player to jump between these sections. I Love Vinyl was founded in the Summer of 2009 by Ben Goldfarb aka DJ Scribe and five other seasoned DJs hailing from NYC, Chicago, Baltimore, and beyond. With over 100 years of spinning, and over 100,000 records between them, the I Love Vinyl all-stars now include DJ Scribe, Amir Abdullah, Jon Oliver, OP!, and Shawn Dub. The organic history of this vinyl-loving crew revolves around their underground Brooklyn dance party and their forays in radio as early users of Mixcloud as a platform for their free-form style. For their decidedly un-mixed radio show, they invite guest vinyl selectors, from seasoned DJ's and collectors to musicians and visual artists, as much for the records they bring as for the stories they have to tell about them.
