David Linton's Cortical Degausser Opening Party with David First

David Linton's Bicameral Research Sound & Projection System sound and video installation entitled Cortical Degausser opened for public viewing on December 7, 2011 in Studio 4 at the Clocktower Gallery in downtown Manhattan. There was an opening party on December 7 at 6pm featuring special guest musical performance within the exhibition space by David First on acoustic guitar accompanying the installation sound with excerpts from the 60 Hrz Raga.

Bicameral Research Sound & Projection System

With Bicameral Research Sound & Projection System, Linton makes vibrational, wave-induced perceptual energy states manifest by deploying interconnected measures of electric sound & pulsing light in live action with hand manipulated objects in a physical (live camera) space. He employs an integrated, recursive audio & video feedback system of his own perversely simple design, modulated by freehand intervention to deliver vigorous eye, ear, and sometimes body shaking real time audio.

David Linton, Bicameral Research Cortical Degausser

This program features an audio mix produced by the artist David Linton from the soundtrack to his Bicameral Research Cortical Degausser installation, created for the Clocktower Gallery in late 2011. The intensely immersive sensory experience of the audio and video driven installation was generated by shifting, pulsating, synchronous sound and colored light patterns and hallucinatory effects. Guest musicians, who appear mixed in to this hour long sample, added a live performance element. Tracks by David First (guitar), David Watson (bagpipes), Hahn Rowe (violin), and Sam Hillmer (saxophone) have been woven into the source track. This project was made possible by a grant from mediaThe Foundation. For more on David Linton, his work, and this entire project at The Clocktower Gallery click here.
