IdeasCity Detroit: Taylor Renee, Social Justice and the Institution
Detroit-based arts writer, cultural critic, facilitator, and IdeasCity Detroit Fellow alum Taylor Renee, co-founding editor of the online publication ARTS.BLACK, is interviewed by IdeasCity Vere van Gool on social justice and the role of the (art) institution. Renee is an arts writer, cultural critic and facilitator based in Detroit, Michigan. Her interests lie at the intersection of arts, culture and equity. She is the co-founding editor of ARTS.BLACK, an online publication for art criticism from Black perspectives predicated on the belief that art criticism should be an accessible dialogue - a tool through which we question, celebrate and talk back to the global world of contemporary art. Taylor has contributed to publications such as ARTnews, Contemporary&, Hyperallergic, and the MetroTimes, Detroit. Taylor Renee received her M.L.A from Harvard University in Museum Studies and her B.A from Howard University in Art History and Business Administration. Vere van Gool is an arts organizer based in New York where she works for the New Museum on its IdeasCity residency program and public conference.
