Jazz & Wordsmith Journey

DJ Jeannie Hopper has entered something of a blue note wormhole, bringing you selections by jazz musicians and wordsmiths from across as many decades as the genres allow. Newer tunes from Francisco Mela, Stanton Moore, Laurie Anderson and Samantha James stand alongside classics by Umar Bin Hassan, Open Thought's Baba Israel and Malika B & Dave Hucker. The cultural spacetime boundary is further breached with work from Trey feat. Eligh and Zimbabwe Legit, a group comprised of Akim Funk Buddah and his brother, along with more cross-generational tunes to upset your every notion of linear time.

With much gratitude to the labels behind these great artists: Ayva Records, Axiom, Concord Group, Hollywood Basic, Liondub International, Mother Tongues, Nonesuch, Om, Open Thought Music, Planet Earth and Virgin Records.

In the Hopper

Gems from independent artists, record labels and producers! Jeannie Hopper has a long-standing herstory of giving artists a chance to be heard. In her DJ sets and on WBAI's Liquid Sound Lounge, she regularly puts together playlists of under-represented and emerging artists so her loyal following can just sit back and avoid the high-intensity shuffle of sorting through all the beautiful and overwhelming things the Information Age has to offer. Now she brings some of that good stuff to Clocktower Radio (formerly Art International Radio, or, AIR).
