Kafala Blues

Kafala Blues presents a selection of tracks reflecting the diversity of the Lebanese migrant labor force, from bootlegs found in Sri Lankan spice shops and Filipino grocery stores to Ethiopian beauty salons and Bengali boutiques. The show takes its name from the Kafala system, a system used to control and monitor the domestic migrant labor force currently being implemented in Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Bahrain, Iraq, Kuwait, Oman, UAE, and Qatar. It is a deeply flawed system that often traps workers in exploitative situations with little protection of basic human rights.
