DB44: Back in Black

This show possibly has the oddest criteria for what qualifies to be included on any mixtape DB has ever done. It's simply the word “black”.  Either as the artist or remixers name, or in the title of the track. Everyone knows how the use of the word black has been prevalent in music since the 60’s, so on search for the word "black” in his iTunes library, DB was expecting a lot. However, not the staggering 1568 items that showed up!

So here are 25 that DB liked from the last year or so, and also throw in a few real classics. Plus something new for this mix. Instead of mixing light and dark, hard and chill throughout, this show starts gently and gradually builds in intensity as the two hours unfold. So get ready to fall into a blackhole of synths and guitars.

This show includes tunes by The Black Angeles, Black Ghosts, The Black Keys, Black Mountain, Black Light White Light & Black Sabbath. Plus another 20 songs with black in the title from Bonobo, Apperat, Phon.o, Two Dark Birds, UNKLE, The Rolling Stones, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Chromatics, Thom Yorke, Efterklang, Velvet Underground, Matthew Dear, Doves, Arcade Fire, David Bowie, Lil Louis, Ume, and Golden Silvers.

As a kid in London, DB used to fall asleep at night with a transistor radio hidden under his pillow. He has been addicted to hearing new music ever since. Here, he brings that music to you.

This is not a music show that's restricted to a particular genre, or even a specific decade, although it has an emphasis on indie rock with electronic elements or electronic music that's not simply for the dance floor. It's a 90-minute mixtape-style show that is as musically open-minded as the musical landscape is wide.
