Second Sundays July 2015: I Love Vinyl

Boogie down to excellent funky beats presented by Ben Goldfarb (AKA DJ Scribe) and Shawn Dub of I Love Vinyl, recorded at Pioneer Works as part of the July 12th, 2015 Second Sundays open house events. Bonus: the duo discusses I Love Vinyl's place in the evolving Manhattan and Brooklyn cultural scenes.

I Love Vinyl was founded in the summer of 2009 by six seasoned DJs hailing from NYC, Chicago, Baltimore, and beyond. With over 100 years of spinning, and over 100,000 records between them, the I Love Vinyl all-stars include DJ Scribe, Amir Abdullah, Jon Oliver, OP!, and Shawn Dub. The organic history of this vinyl loving crew revolves around their fabulous grassroots parties and their innovations in radio using Mixcloud in a terrestrial-influenced, free-form style. For their shows, which have spread from Brooklyn to Amsterdam, they invite taste-makers including seasoned DJ's, crate diggers, musicians, and artists who share a passion for spinning. They are champions of vinyl in the digital age.

Clocktower Exhibits & Events

RADIO SERIES

Clocktower Exhibits & Events is home to an archive of interviews with artists, curators, musicians, organizers, and more who have participated in Clocktower exhibitions and events throughout our organization’s history.

Many of the below recordings were documented while Clocktower was in the midst of a transformation. The original name, The Clocktower Gallery, was given to the exhibition, residency, and performance space in TriBeCa, founded by alternative spaces movement pioneer Alanna Heiss in 1972. After 2001, the Clocktower Gallery re-inaugurated its exhibition programming in 2005 as part of MoMA/PS1 and, after 2008, under the auspices of Art International Radio. In 2013, we moved on from our downtown Manhattan location, and have since renamed the organization Clocktower Productions, a title which encompasses our radio, exhibition, and event programming.

For more Clocktower history, listen to The Clocktower Oral History Project, in which such figures as Vito Acconci, Bill Beirne, Colette, Jeffrey Deitch, Mary Heilmann, Jene Highstein, Ann Magnuson, Richard Nonas and Joel Shapiro reflect upon their experiences with this unique New York space. Organized by artist Nancy Hwang for the Fall 2009 AVANT-GUIDE TO NYC: Discovering Absence exhibition at apexart.

NB: Clocktower Radio was launched by MoMA/PS1 in 2004 as the Web's first art radio station. It has been independent since 2009 and is licensed to host content created under PS1 management. Programs produced prior to 2011 may refer to our earlier URLs and station IDs, including WPS1.org, artonair.org, and Art International Radio. I Love Vinyl

RADIO SERIES

I Love Vinyl is a collective of world-class djs and record collectors based in New York City who are dedicated to the preservation and promotion of authentic vinyl dance music djing and club culture. For their decidedly un-mixed radio show, they invite guest vinyl selectors from seasoned DJ’s and collectors to musicians and non-musical artists, not only for the records but for the stories that accompany them. The group was founded in 2009 by NYC-native Ben Goldfarb, aka DJ Scribe, with a veritable Dream Team of resident vinyl romantics, hailing from NYC, Chicago, Baltimore, and beyond. They present legendary monthly parties in Brooklyn (with a sister party in Amsterdam), collaborate with arts and cultural institutions and organizations, design and implement educational programs, and engage in pro bono work with social causes organizations. The current all-star lineup, with a brain-numbing 100+ years of combined dj experience, and 100K+ records between them, consists of Amir Abdullah, OP!, Jon Oliver, Shawn Dub and Scribe.
