Sean Baker, Prince of Broadway

For his third film, Prince of Broadway, NYU Film School grad Sean Baker, who is known for his Comedy Central series Greg the Bunny, took his cues after observing immigrants selling knock-off merchandise on a strip of Broadway between Herald Square and Madison Park. He then fashioned a compelling, unsentimental story about Lucky, an illegal Ghanaian immigrant, and the toddler--suddenly handed to him by an ex-lover--who changes his life. Winner of the L.A. Film Festival.
