Grandwizzard Theodore Live

Clocktower invited hip hop DJ legend Grandwizzard Theodore to wow the crowd at Pioneer Works with this two-hour set of deep grooves, musical twists, turns, and ticklish surprises offered with an infectious smile from this uncontainable earthly soul. Recorded December 14, 2014.

Grandwizzard Theodore is a legendary hip hop DJ and widely credited as the inventor of scratching and needle drop techniques. Awarded the title “Grandwizzard” by his DJ peers, Theodore was featured in the Scratch documentary and the motion picture Wild Style, as a character and contributor to the film’s soundtrack. In addition to his current passion teaching at the Scratch Academy, he continues to hold down spots across the city and work on albums, such as Hip Hop Headz.

The Clocktower Gallery was founded by the alternative spaces movement pioneer Alanna Heiss in 1972. After a hiatus as a gallery space (after the Sept. 11, 2001 events nearby), the Clocktower Gallery reinaugurated its exhibition programming in 2005 as part of MoMA/PS1 and, after 2008, under the auspices of the newly founded Art International Radio (now Clocktower Productions). Clocktower Exhibits is home to interviews with and performances by its exhibitions' participating artists and curators over these many years.
