Emma Donoghue & Lenny Abrahamson, Room

Two Dubliners, novelist-turned-screenwriter Emma Donoghue and director Lenny Abrahamson, discuss their lauded adaptation of Donoghue’s global bestseller, Room, a story of captivity, imprisonment, freedom and consequences. Donoghue explains why the film’s startling departure from the novel’s singular point of view from the five year old boy was essential, while Abrahamson details the hurdles he faced in avoiding sentimentality and making certain that what happens is credible for the film audience.
