Oyama Enrico Isamu Letter: Aeromural

Oyama Enrico Isamu Letter has joined our artist production studio program where he will develop a new room-swallowing mural and sound installation entitled Aeromural.

Open studio and artist talk on Thursday, June 27, 2013 from 6-8. RSVP,

Oyama Enrico Isamu Letter is an artist born in Tokyo, 1983, to an Italian father and a Japanese mother. “Quick Turn Structure” is the recurrent motif of his work including painting, installation and mural. Based on his unique perspective across contemporary art and street art, his practice also expands to writing critical texts, participating symposia and commission works such as one for COMME des GARÇONS in Paris Collection 2011.

The first half of the residency includes the creation of a mural inside of the residency studio while microphones record the sounds of the aerosol sprays. These audio files will be used for the second half of the residency. After the room is painted white again and restored to its original condition it will be turned into a sound installation piece. Many small speakers will reproduce the previously recorded sounds of the painting process and therefore serve as a reminder of the mural that has been created producing these sounds but is already long gone.

Aeromural Open Studio & Talk

Join Oyama Enrico Isamu Letter for a gathering and artist presentation focusing on his new surround sound installation portrait of the aerosol recorded through the process of creating his mural Aeromural, now repainted white. This talk takes place on June 27th, no admittance after 7pm. RSVP is required to events@artonair.org Aeromural, the previous piece, was a room-swallowing mural installation of "Quick Turn Structure", the recurring motif and signature style of artist Oyama Enrico Isamu Letter. Born in Tokyo to an Italian-German father and a Japanese mother, Oyama Enrico Isamu Letter developed his fascination for the language of graffiti whilst growing up in Tokyo. His signature "Quick Turn Structure" is a visually striking black-and-white minimal pattern developed from stripping down the more visceral language of street graffiti to only essentials. Now painted over white, his residency space has been transformed into a sound installation piece with many small speakers that will reproduce the previously recorded sounds of the painting process, a reminder of the mural long gone.
